Parkrun comes to Pensacola.
Pensacola parkrun starts at University of West Florida 7:30 am Saturday January 5th, 2019. Pensacola parkrun is the first parkrun to take place on a university campus in the United States.
Parkrun is the first 5K for many people, young and old. Its easy registration process, low stress and friendly atmosphere, as well as always being free, encourages average adults to give walking, jogging or running a 5K a try. It is also great way for parents to introduce their children to running.
Pensacola parkrun is supported by the University of West Florida; the Pensacola Runners Association; Attorney Gene Mitchell; the Videau Family; Bank of Pensacola; the Foley Family and Express Employment Professionals.

Clermont FL parkrun opened on April 27th2013 and was attended by 38 runners and 10 volunteers. Since then 6,513 runners/walkers and 2695 volunteers have participated in 245 weekly timed, free runs. The average parkrunner completed the course three times in an average of 31 minutes, 06 seconds.

Parkrun is a system of free 5Km run/walks that take place every Saturday morning in about 950 parks around the world (www.parkrun.com), with over 250,000 people participating on any given Saturday. It was established 14 years ago by Paul Sinton-Hewitt in Bushy Park outside London.
Parkrun is successful because it is simple, free, easily accessible and conducted by volunteers among its participants. You can register once on any parkrun website and with your athlete barcode can arrive at parkrun anywhere in the world at the local start time and run, jog or walk your 5K. The volunteers time the run, process the results and send everyone their results the same day. The system saves your statistics, showing you your results no matter where you run in the world.
As Henty Wigglesworth, co-founder of Fletcher’s Cove DC parkrun noted, “it is so popular that every weekend we have tourists from around the world showing up to participate – recently we had tourists from other US parkruns as well as from Australia, Denmark, St Petersburg, Russia, South Africa and the UK.”
